lpha Structural completed a hillside drainage and waterproofing project designed to improve water management around a Los Angeles home. The work focused on controlling surface runoff traveling down the slope and reducing the amount of water reaching the foundation and adjacent soil.
The project included regrading portions of the hillside to establish more effective drainage patterns around the structure. A new swale was constructed to intercept runoff and direct water toward designated drainage locations rather than allowing it to collect against the home or flow uncontrolled toward the foundation.
Drainage improvements included surface drains and solid drainage piping positioned to collect water from the swale and surrounding areas. The system provided a controlled path for moving captured runoff away from the structure and toward an appropriate discharge location.
Along sections of the hillside foundation, soil was excavated to expose the exterior foundation wall. The surface was cleaned and prepared before a new waterproofing system was applied to help reduce moisture intrusion through the below-grade portions of the structure.
After the waterproofing and drainage components were installed, excavated areas were backfilled and the surrounding grade was restored to promote positive drainage. The swale was shaped to continue directing surface water away from the home and into the drainage system.
Together, the hillside grading, drainage swale, foundation waterproofing, surface drains, and solid drain piping created a comprehensive water-management system designed to reduce soil saturation and help protect the foundation from hillside runoff and moisture intrusion.
