Alpha Structural performed an exploratory structural investigation at the No Ho Arts Apartments in North Hollywood. The project focused on deteriorated stucco at the southwesterly column-to-girder connections supporting the walkway and balcony area, where cracking and separation indicated that concealed framing conditions required further evaluation.
A total of nine isolated column locations along the southwesterly courtyard were identified for exploration. Select sections at the column-to-girder connections were opened to provide direct access to the underlying structural components and determine the condition of framing concealed behind the exterior finishes.
Once exposed, the framing members were examined for signs of structural distress, including dry rot in timber components and rust or corrosion in steel members. The purpose of this investigation was to establish whether the observed deterioration extended into the structural framing and whether an engineered repair solution would be necessary.
Following the investigation, each exploratory opening was temporarily concealed with plastic sheathing, and debris generated during Alpha Structural's work was removed from the property. Permanent cosmetic repairs, including restoration of the opened stucco areas, were outside the contracted scope and designated to be completed by others.
